Time: 12pm – 3pm

Understanding Society is inviting delegates to attend a timely debate to discuss the unfolding momentum on gender equality. The event will promote a cross-sectoral conversation on the interplay of factors driving the gender pay gap, and how best to reduce it.

The event, which is part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Science, looks at new evidence from Understanding Society revealing the impact of part-time working on pay, how parenthood shapes gendered attitudes towards employment, and the effects of divorce on gender differences in housing.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on the gender pay gap, with speakers including:

  • Fran Bennett, Senior Research and Teaching Fellow, University of Oxford Department of Social Policy and Intervention
  • Monica Costa Dias, Associate Director, Institute for Fiscal Studies and Research Economist, University of Porto Centre for Economics and Finance
  • Sam Smethers, Director, Fawcett Society
  • Helen Wright, Founder, 923 Jobs
