Rights that are kept after Brexit may be made less effective… And British women would not benefit from any future gains at EU level.
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) published a report in March 2016 on how Britain’s EU membership has significantly improved the rights of women at work.
The report found that EU law has extended rights to equal pay and strengthened protection from sex discrimination. It has also improved the treatment of pregnant women and new mothers in the workplace and introduced new entitlements for parents to take time off.
A government that is keen on cutting ‘burdens on business’ would
be unlikely to leave workers’ rights intact.
