EHRC Draft Strategic Priorities consultation events – February-March 2009 posted: 23 January 09
The Equality and Human Rights Commission is holding a further four consultation and involvement events and hosting a further period of on-line consultation about its Draft Strategic Priorities.

Briefing: 'A Single Equality Duty Fit for Disabled People' posted: 23 January 09
Radar and RNID have produced a briefing to inform people about the threats and opportunities around the Single Equality Duty for the public sector and ask for examples of how the Disability Equality Duty has worked in practice.

Age Concern seminar: Equivalence or difference? – 27 January 2009 posted: 16 January 09
A few places are still available for Age Concern's seminar 'Equivalence or difference? Revisiting the concept of age equality'. The event is taking place in Central London, 2.00-4.45 pm on Tuesday 27th January.

'New Opportunities' White Paper posted: 15 January 09
On 13 January 2009, the Government published a White Paper proposing a new duty on public bodies to address socio-economic disadvantage.
Speaker’s Conference: announcement of inquiry posted: 09 January 09
On 12 November 2008 the House of Commons announced a Speaker’s Conference to ‘consider and make recommendations for rectifying the disparity between the representation of women, ethnic minorities and disabled people in the House of Commons and their representation in the UK population at large; and may agree to consider other associated matters’. As part of the inquiry, the Conference is inviting written views, to be received by Monday 26 January 2009.

Office of Government Commerce procurement guide posted: 09 January 09
‘Making Equality Count’ by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) was published in 2008 and shows public procurers how to address equality in the procurement process.

Summary of responses to ‘Cohesion Guidance for Funders’ consultation posted: 09 January 09
On 11 December 2008, Communities and Local Government published a summary of responses to its consultation on draft Cohesion Guidance for Funders (which ran from February 2008 to May 2008).

New European Commission publications posted: 09 January 09
In 2008, the European Commission published the combined 6th and 7th issue of the 'European Anti-discrimination Law Review', as well as reports on ‘Limits and Potential of the Concept of Indirect Discrimination’ and ‘Continuing the Diversity Journey – Business Practices, Perspectives and Benefits’.

Government response to consultation on dispute resolution posted: 09 January 09
In December 2008, the Government published its response to the consultation on Dispute Resolution Secondary Legislation.

LGB Mental Health Project and Survey posted: 09 January 09
Funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), and in partnership with Mind Cymru, Hafal and Journeys, Stonewall Cymru are conducting the first ever all Wales research project into the views and needs of those who are lesbian, gay or bisexual (LGB) and have experiences of mental health issues.

Charities call for a new national care deal posted: 09 January 09
Help the Aged, Counsel and Care and Carers UK, working together as the ‘Right care Right deal’ campaign, are calling for a nationally determined social care system to end the injustice of a care postcode lottery and help people better prepare for their future.

BAME Women Councillors Taskforce regional events – January-April 2009 posted: 09 January 09
In May 2008, the Government launched a cross-party Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) women Councillors Taskforce to encourage under-represented women to participate in public life and to support them to become local councillors. The Government Equalities Office is supporting the Taskforce in a series of related free regional events taking place between 9 January and 17 April 2009.
