Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry: 20 Years of the Human Rights Act

On 9 November 2018, it will be 20 years since the Human Rights Act (HRA) was given Royal Assent.

The Joint Committee on Human Rights has opened an inquiry on the Human Rights Act, which asks whether the Act has been effective, and whether rights truly have been “brought home”.

In the 20 years since the HRA, there have been radical changes in the context in which it operates including:

  • Changing family structures
  • Global migration
  • Intensified security concerns
  • Technology
  • Increased concerns about privacy.

Find out more about the questions that the Committee seeks views on.

Evidence must be submitted by Friday 14 September 2018.
